Coffee Lovers: How the Cobalamin Tonic Will Change Your Life

Like chocolate?  Drink coffee?  Got a sweet tooth?  What if you could enjoy all three pleasures while enhancing your well-being?  Better sleep, balanced hormones, more energy, improved mood and powerful nutrition:  the Cobalamin Tonic does all of these things. It’s one of my favorite tonic beverages and I consume it on a daily basis.

Theobroma Cacao – The fruit that is processed to make chocolate. ‘Theobroma’ literally means ‘Food of the gods’

One of the amazing things about this delicious beverage (apart from combining chocolate AND coffee) is that it takes the edginess and jitters away typically associated with coffee, while still providing a gentle lift in energy and mood.  Not only that, the crash that happens after drinking coffee is totally absent.  Some mysterious synergy between the Cacao, Maple Syrup and coffee softens the harsh edge of caffeine and provides a steady source of energy throughout the day.  I’ve sensed the energetic boost of Cacao six hours after drinking my morning Tonic!

Cacao or raw chocolate is considered by some to be a natural anti-depressant.  I can attest to its gentle but powerful affect on mood.  Raw Cacao contains dopamine, anandamides (‘bliss-chemicals, ‘ananda’ is Sanskrit for ‘bliss’)  phenylethylamine (PEA) and serotonin, all compounds that promote positive mental health.  MAOI’s (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors) in Cacao keep these feel-good chemicals circulating in the bloodstream longer, thus easing melancholy and supporting well-being and a positive outlook.  Just be sure to consume in moderation as Cacao is a psychoactive substance and cardiac stimulant, and overdoing it isn’t fun (learned that the hard way).

Coffee Beans

One cup a day will support your endocrine system by balancing hormone levels.  It works by regulating cortisol levels throughout the day, with the additional benefit of enhancing relaxation and sleep at night!

Cacao is also a great source of magnesium, copper, vitamin b12  and many other nutrients lacking from most modern diets.  Raw, Grade B or unrefined Maple Syrup is also high in minerals essential to staying well.

I’ve even heard anecdotal evidence of post-menopausal women having their cycles start again after consuming this tonic regularly.  It’s powerful stuff!

Here’s the recipe:

1 tsp Raw Cacao Powder
1 tsp Grade B (unrefined) Maple Syrup
1 cup Coffee

Mix cacao and maple syrup into a thick paste in a coffee mug, then pour over coffee and stir well.  Enjoy!

Edit:  After some time, I’ve concluded that this drink should not be consumed daily!  It’s very powerful and can cause temporary spikes in blood pressure.  Cacao has potent psychoactive properties that are subtle at first, but pretty brain-altering with consistent use.  This happy brew should be consumed in moderation (like most things).

About Gino

In the words of a beloved friend, "Mystery isn’t something that you cannot understand; rather, it is something that you can endlessly understand." At this point, I can't say "I've got it," but I do trust daily that it's gotten me. Let's walk home together.
